TREBECK HALL, BISHOP’S DRIVE ,SOUTHWELL

SPEAKER:

Dr Chris King: Exploring Southwell: archaeologies of the Peculiar

Chris King of the University of Nottingham will share some of the highlights of various archaeological research projects conducted over the past 15 years in collaboration with the Community Archaeology Group. We’ve explored gardens, buildings, maps and finds small and large, in the centre of the town and the wider Peculiar of Southwell minster – what have we learnt along the way about how the town began and the way in which it developed? What makes Southwell a uniquely interesting place to do archaeological research – and what is the potential for future discoveries?

There will be a display of selected artefacts from Southwell for people to look at and talk about. The event will start at 10. 30, with time to look at the artefacts, followed by a short AGM, then a talk from Chris King.
