Norwell Overhall dig

DIG -DAY 10

We ended the day with a clean packed-mortar and rubble surface that we then photographed and drew. David is hatching a plan to take a section through this surface next week. Quite alot of small sherds of modern pottery retrieved today; one interesting piece of Staffordshire slip ware, but also tons of stone and ceramic building material. Someone obviously went to alot of trouble to lay this deep feature, but what for?

Cleaning the surface back to the west end!
Old school photography!
With the context board. Those water pipes are getting further from the excavated surface every day!
The surface runs in an arc from the east, with recent garden soils to the north side.
