John Laycock and Andy Weaver have been keeping a watching brief while the stonemasons work on restoring walls in the Dean’s garden. There have been some remarkable discoveries.
John writes: The Deans garden wall rebuild continues to come up with surprises. A carved Mansfield sandstone was found located within the remains of the mud stone walling at the rear of the Georgian brick facing wall. This stone is a closed Trefoil design with chamfered sides, possibly for a gable apex or part of an external wall decoration.
