On Saturday June 9th Jane Young came to impart some of her deep knowledge and long-won wisdom on local medieval pottery traditions. This was an ideal opportunity for us to fill in some gaps in our knowledge. As Jane explained that there are a possible 800 ware types and around 2,000 different fabrics we began to understand that this might not be as simple as we thought!
The day was highly enjoyable and thoroughly informative and Jane was able to identify many of the medieval sherds we picked up in fieldwalking. This work will be reflected in a soon to be published report on the fields we have walked to date on the Brackenhurst estate.
Notes from Jane’s sessions are available for members on the “members’ page” Ask Stephen for a password.
