Deapartment of Classics and Archaeology laboratories

The department have some new facilities and our Vice-President Professor Will Bowden kindly hosted a visit for us. 14 SCAG members enjoyed a really interesting visit to see the latest equipment. The future of archaeology lies in working together with other scientists and developing the latest techniques for artefact analysis. We got to see some of our samples given X-ray and XRF analysis. We also heard about strontium and oxygen isotope analysis on bones and saw the potential in 3D digitising of artefacts. Our thanks to Susie the lab manager for her expertise and time.
